Rev. James P. Davitt

Pastor of St. James at Sag Bridge from 1988 to 1994

Rev James P. Davitt, spent 40 years of his life dedicated to Priestly ministry. After receiving his bachelor's and master's degrees from St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, Illinois he was ordained to the priesthood by Cardinal Stritch on May 3rd 1955.

 Father Davitt began his pastorate of St. James at Sag Bridge in March in 1988. He was officially installed at the Saturday evening Mass on March 26 by Bishop Abromowicz followed by a reception in Sag hall.

Father Davitt's stay at St. James at SagBridge was cut short by a car accidnet. In January of 1994 Father Davitt was driving home from a priest's meeting in Lemont when he had a serious car accident at Archer Road & Main street. He was hospitalized with severe head trauma and underwent brain surgery. He was later transfer to Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheaton, for therapy and extended recovery.

Father Davitt's recovery was such a slow one that he was moved to St. Benedict's Home in Niles for extended care in March of 1994. While Father did return to St. James at Sag Bridge on several occasions of celebrations he was never able to resume his role as pastor.
